Allama Iqbal was the greatest poet, philosopher and visionary of Pakistan Born in 1877, he acquired his basic education from his native city of Sialkot. He used to send his poetry for correction to “Daagh Dehlvi”, who remarked that Iqbal’s poetry is free from errors. “Nala-e-Yateem” was his first Urdu poem. His first urdu book was “Ilm-ul-Iqtasad” which was published in 1901. He got the degree of Law and philosophy from England. He got his P.H.D degree from Munich University, Germany. After coming back to country, he transformed his vision from a patriotic poet to Islamic or nationalist poet. “Bang-e-Dara” was his first poetic collection. He was awarded “Knighthood” in 1922 by the Government of Britian.
“Israr-e-khuddee”, “Ramooz-e-Bekhuddi”, “Payam-e-Mashrik”, “Zaboor-e-Ajam”, “Javed Nama”, “Bang-e-Dara”, “Bal-e-Jibreel”, and “Zarb-e-Kaleem” were his books on poetry. Iqbal was famous for his nationalistic poetry in Urdu and Persian. He presented many theories for the reawakening of the Muslims from deep slumber. He was a proponent of a separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent. He was the first person who visualized Pakistan as the only way out of this communal strife between the Hindus and the Muslim. Allama Iqbal also worked for the betterment of Muslim politically, socially, religiously and educationally. He died in 1939 in Lahore and he was buried near “Meenar-e-Pakistan”.
